OVERVIEW:
This workshop is a follow-on from my Intro to Bookmaking short course, where we will take binding a step further and explore the buttonhole binding structure. This elegant exposed-spine binding uses a cut-out window in the cover through which the sewing is visible, creating both a functional and decorative feature. It produces a durable book that opens flat, making it ideal for sketchbooks, journals, or artist’s books.
WHAT YOU’LL DO/MAKE/TAKE AWAY:
We’ll begin with a quick re-cap of folding, piercing and sewing techniques from the intro workshop before moving into the buttonhole method.
